Well, I'm doing a store-front fundraising for Bosnian Rescue Saturday 10th January. That will be at Tesco's Supermarket, Glastonbury, Somerset UK from about 8.30 a.m. until at least 5pm.

Only 8 days to go!

The fundraising is for AWABosnia (Animal Welfare Advocates for Bosnia) They have given me permission to use text/photos etc from their website on my 'stand' outside the store:

Their Facebook page:

(Quoted from the website at AWABosnia.org):

"Animal Welfare Advocates For Bosnia

Who we are and What we do.

Founded in 2012, Animal Welfare Advocates for Bosnia is a volunteer group dedicated to assisting and supporting animal welfare groups in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Our work involves raising awareness of the suffering of all animals in Bosnia; raising funds for local animal welfare groups in the country to alleviate this suffering and to locate long-term homes for the rescued dogs and cats. We also raise funds to cover the extensive costs involved in re-locating these animals to countries outside Bosnia-Herzegovina."

So now with only a week or so to go I am working on printing things up, and designing the 'stand'. It will be a fairly simple operation, but hopefully I will manage to raise some cash for their compassionate work -mainly for dogs, but also cats, in Bosnia Herzegovina.

I already collected £37! Wow!

I'll post updates here.....
Wow you have started your fundraising.
It should be a good location. Grocery stores are always really busy on Sat, especially in the morning.

That is already a good amount of money. Keep us posted on your preparations and how the fundraising goes.
I think it is fantastic. Every little bit will make such a difference to the welfare of the dogs. I am sure they are happy that their appeals for help have worked.

Tobi you are fantastic. Most of us read about things and think "someone should do something". You are actually doing something.
Every best wish for a wonderful cause, Tobi.
Thank you Catherine and LPC.
I wanted to do something for them. If I lived there I would roll up my sleeves and help. I had to ration my donations recently, as there are so many causes I wanted to assist, but money doesn't grow on trees! LOL
(Wish I was a millionaire!)

So if I can't volunteer to clean....can't take food to them...can't help those dogs practically, and have to be a bit thoughtful about what I spend...I knew the only other option was to try to raise some money for them.

The problem is, there are so many worthy causes worldwide, where animals are getting a rough deal, and just need a little kindness and decent conditions. Maybe I'll do some others in the future.

In such places as Bosnia Herzegovina, the authorities do little to help the plight of those dogs. Only the volunteers on the front line are helping, and they need support and resources. The life of those dogs is something fairly unimaginable in a country like Britain. Even in Britain things are not perfect, but Bosnia seems 'off the map' as far as kindness and compassion for those street dogs is concerned.

I have never done anything like this before....so it may work out as a bit of a 'Heath Robinson' affair, with lots of paper glue, string and sellotape involved!

I got some small leaflets done -to give away to people at the 'stall':
(this is just a photo of one)...

This is amazing. The leaflet is good. If you can pass them out people can donate later online.
Any funds you collect and send will make a difference. I can't wait to hear how it all works put.

People here do fundraisers for out Humane Society Shelter. Sometimes kids will have a birthday party where they ask for donations instead of birthday presents. Most of us want to help, but just don't have the money. I give time and like you I donate when I can.

I hope you do really well today. If fundraising works then you will have new ways of giving to worthy causes. There are so many and they all matter. But the dogs of Bosnia are particularly needy.

I am looking at the time and you are probably already there setting up. My thoughts are with you.
How did it go, Tobi?
No I haven't done it yet. It's next Saturday -7 days to go now!

I got some photos printed today though.
33 You did say 8 days to go and named the 10th of Jan as the day.
We are all so excited about it that we want it to be now.

So we have a whole week to be excited about it and you have lots of time to prepare.

So will you have a table or something to put pictures on or will you stand there and give information out. I wish I could join you, but the commute is a bit far. Keep us posted on your preparations.
Oh dear, I got too excited and couldn't even read your first post, LOL!

The store will let me use a small table, and I will have a stand-up thing at the back, and a big lidded bucket for people to put money in (which used to have fat balls in for the birds...but has been cleaned out!)
HAHA! I would have appreciated your company Catherine...as I am on my own with it, and have 2 choices....one, don't drink anything all day long....and two, go to the store's loo with the cash bucket! (it might have to be the latter!)
