It seems that injured Koalas in Australia need little mittens to help with their healing. So there is a world wide appeal for help.

It seems that they have lots of mittens and now they need pouches. I think the public response is wonderful. I am predicting that years from now they will still be getting mittens and pouches.
Poor little things. They must be traumatised as well as burned. They have lost their habitat. And some will have lost their mothers, or mothers lost their young.

They seem to have so many mittens already from all over the world, and now need pouches instead. It is so good to see many people from different countries have helped very quickly! I could maybe sew one or two but have no machine so they would have to be done by hand. Though not very good at sewing, I'm not too bad when I get going....
No doubt they will receive thousands of pouches. People really want to help and Koalas have a way of touching our hearts just by being so cute.Heart

Once I start sewing I can do amazing things in a short time. There just never seems to be time to get started. I do have a sewing machine. It helps. Hand sewing is slower. I still do some things by hand. I can do a better job for small mending.

Poor koalas, they will have to find somewhere for them to live.
Wow it's gone global. Glad so many have helped out where they can. I don't have a machine either, whatever I sew (mainly holes in my horse rugs) is all done by hand so I'm not very good at it!

Same thing happened with the little penguins and the oil spill. People made so many of the jumpers, and years later there's still more coming in! So PINP use the excess jumpers to put on soft toy penguins which are sold to the public and proceeds go back into their conservation efforts. Maybe something similar might happen with the koalas, or they might store them for next years bushfire season. Either way, I don't think they'll be wasted.
People really want to help. We sit here on the far side of the planet and the cutest animal ever has been hurt and we want to help.

They will end up with mittens and pouches enough for the next ten years of fire season. But that is good. It makes people aware of the problems you face in Australia. Maybe they can sell little koala toys in pouches to fundraise.

How are the koalas doing?
