Because I live in Toronto this is a special favourite of mine. They work to set up hives in the city. It is amazing, the bees are thriving here.

When they wanted to expand, they did a Kickstarter and raised enough money and now is when they are setting up. I think it is exciting that something positive is being done to combat the loss of bees.

It looks like the new hives are on their way. And the new bees will be flying the city this summer. Every time I see a bee I will wonder is it is one of our Bee rescue bees.

There is so much environmental bad news these days. I love it when someone does something good that helps the environment.Heart
Great news for the bees and for the city. This could easily be implemented elsewhere.
That is wonderful news. Let's hope these projects can help the survival of the bees. (For our sake as well as theirs!)

I have heard before that urban bees do so much better than rural bees. They have more varied forage, and fewer pesticides to contend with. We should all bear this in mind...we can all help, in a town or city. A packet of wildflower seeds scattered on any bare earth or on an old dump site... (bees don't mind if there are old tyres, or tin cans mixed in with their flowers!) And what does a packet of seeds cost? Very little.
We can plant our city gardens -even rooftop gardens or large patio pots, with flowers and be careful what we spray there.
Even the many weeds which are allowed to grow are beneficial to the bees. Some 'weeds' have the most beautiful flowers.
It is amazing when you think of it, the city bees really do better. A lot of people are planting bee and butterfly friendly gardens. We are not using any sprays in the city.

I think cities are going to be the way that much of the environment is saved. People in the cities understand the issues and want to help. I know it is not everyone in the city , but it is enough. There is plenty of reason to be hopeful.
