A while ago I posted about the Toronto Humane Society being part of an initiative to bring vet care to the remote northern communities.
They have done a five day visit to a community that is only accessible by small plane. They saw 238 dogs and spay/neutered 197. That is a lot of work done in the time they had.
They are a dedicated group and their work makes a tremendous difference.

I hope they can continue to send vet help to the remote communities. Vaccinating and sterilizing would make a big difference to the dog population in these remote areas.

What an excellent idea. I must say I have never really considered how hard it must be to get vet care in remote areas. There is nowhere here that could be considered that remote. Some of the Northern Islands, maybe, but generally, in the UK, we are never very far from anywhere, at least that is my experience.

Many parts of Northern Canada are quite remote. They are north of the tree line in the permafrost areas. There are no roads in and probably never will be. It is a tough life. Being over run by stray dogs is a desperate thing. Food is expensive and things are hard to get.

Having a vet come and look after the basics is a tremendous help. I hope they can find a way to reach other communities and return to the one they have helped.
