I am giving Renate Durance honorary animal status in our Famous Animals section.

Who is she you might ask. She was a columnist for the Windsor Star. For 40  years she wrote a Pet of the Week column featuring pets from the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society. Faithfully, week after week, year after year, through her words, she did her best to get animals adopted from the shelter into loving homes.

She is one of the unsung heroes who have tirelessly worked to help animals and make life better for them. We so seldom hear about these people and we so seldom get to say thank you.
So thank-you Renate for all the years of service you gave to animals. We who care about animals, salute you and honor your memory.
What a great lady! To have spent so many years helping get pets adopted is a wonderful achievement.
I didn't know about this lady's work before. Maybe because I'm 'across the Pond'....
But blessings to her for what she did to help animals find happy homes. What wonderful work! And a positive use for her writing talents. There must be many animals who have a place for her in their hearts for what she did.
Go well in Spirit, dear Lady.

(Renate has the most beautiful clear blue eyes.)
She has done a great service for animals and I'm glad she is being honored.

I never heard of her either. I just came across the article about her because I have a news alert set up on my computer. Sometimes it comes up with gems like this.
She was a wonderful person. There is no way to guess at how many animals she helped.
There must be many other special people out there that we will never hear about. The world is filled with angels. Angel
