Rosebert is almost 7 and finally it shows. His back legs have given out and he mostly is able to rest in one spot. I put a soft blanket under him and I can change that several times a day. I put small dishes of food and water within his reach. He mostly rests and the other piggies keep him company.

I know that he is failing so this won't last. Rosebert has been a fine pig and he has lived a full life. As much as I can I am making him comfortable and I am checking on him. He is not sick  he is just very old.

Norbert his younger brother is almost the same age and he is showing signs of aging as well.

It seems forever ago that Miss Charlie was pregnant and little baby Rosebert was born, followed a few months later by baby Norbert. They were both so cute. And now here we are at the end of their lives. Time has gone so fast.
Kind thoughts to dear little Rosebert in his last days. I wish him a peaceful passing when the time comes. He has all his friends around him.

I know, the years pass so quickly. I was thinking that the other day when remembering something I did with Misty, then realising that was nine years ago! It felt like last year...
Thank-you for your kind thoughts. I think it won't be long.

This is Rosebert with his brother, two months ago.

You can see he is still walking.

Robbie knows there is a problem

This is just weeks later.

He lies down to eat.

He is actually having a good day here. It was about a week ago.

This is Rosebert now.

He is eating well, but I do have to put the food right in front of him. He finds it hard to sit up.
Still, he is surrounded by his family in the only home he has known all these years.

I can't stop time. Rosebert is very old. I can keep him clean and comfortable and give him all the treats that he loves.
Now it is just a matter of waiting the way I waited for him to be born all those years ago.

You are right the years pass so quickly.
Dearest Rosebert. Their time with us is all too short. It does seem like only yesterday he was born to dear Miss Charlie.
I hope his life continues to be comfortable and peaceful surrounded by his family, both piggy and Human, until it's time to go.
Then he will join the ever growing herd of beasties waiting for you.
My thought are with you and Rosebert and all his piggy friends. They do seem to know what it's all about, don't they?
Thank-you. He is having a good day today, but he is still failing.  The others are so kind to him.  I love it when I find one of the others cleaning Rosebert or sleeping snuggled up with him.

I can give him a quiet end to a life that has been happy and filled with love. That is the best that anyone could wish for.
He has been such a quiet presence I suspect he will be missed because he will leave a large gentle space empty in our hearts.
He is still enjoying his food, and that is good. He is letting go slowly. I love his little 'bears in the forest' blanket. And Norbert looks so full of compassion and comfort for him.
There's nothing new I can add that hasn't been said, he looks so cozy.
Thank-you all. He does look cozy. His little blanket is a piece of the material for my fuzzy housecoat.
Norbert is very close. He has never known life without Rosebert. They are half brothers from the same mother.

Rosebert is still eating and is letting go of life slowly. He likes his life here and has no reason to want to move on yet.
Soon enough though. His little body is failing.
I have been thinking of little Rosebert the last couple of days. How is he doing?

A strange thing happened. I think it was Sunday....or Monday night. I was watching a movie (I think on You tube but can't remember where now....it could have been British catch-up TV) And was watching the ending credits roll by, and the name "Rosebert" came up! It all happened so fast I can't remember their first name or any details.)
Rosebert has good moments and not so good ones. Mostly he just lies quiet and I make sure he has food and I put a blanket over him. I can sometimes prop him up with a pillow for a short while, but he seems to prefer lying down.   I make a point of turning him so he doesn't get pressure sores. He is sleeping on soft baby blankets. I can change the blanket many times a day so I can keep him clean.
The other piggies are so good with him.

I think his heart is weak so it is only a matter of time, but he is comfortable and surrounded by his friends and the life he has always known.

It is odd you would see the name Rosebert. When he was born, I thought he was a girl and I called him Rose because he is pink.
Four weeks later when I realized he was a boy I added bert to the name Rose in honour of Pigbert. If it actually exists as a name I have never heard it.

Pigbert was made up in the first place.  I love the cartoon Dilbert about the nerdy engineer. He has a dog called Dogbert and a cat called Catbert. Then he ended up with a rat called Ratbert. So it made sense for me to have a Pigbert. Some day I will end up with a Snakebert. I won't be able to resist it.
