It's happened again. Another snake to take in. This time a friend of my fiancé, Kasey, knew someone who needed to find a home for his 6 month old ball python. His wife wouldn't let him keep it and we were the first ones called to see if we could take her. The 40 gallon tank and everything comes with her no charge. He just wanted her to have a good home. We found this out Saturday as we were driving down to Florida for the week on vacation. So the friend that recommended us is fostering her for us until we get back. We pick her up today and I can't wait. We have been thinking of names all week.
Some of the names we are thinking are: River, Kailey, Bellatrix, Erza just some of them. I think at this point we are both leaning towards Bellatrix. The day we found out we went to the Harry Potter midnight release so we were in that mindset.
We've been picking from some of our favorite TV shows and movies. Since we already have star trek covered we moved to Firefly, Harry Potter, and Fairytale.
It's funny how this is the second time this year we have been asked to take in a snake. Especially free of charge and everything comes with them. Kinda feels good that we were the first ones asked.
That's exciting -you are picking her up today! I am sure all will go well, and she will be glad of a happy home to settle into.
I quite like "Firefly" as a name. But that is without knowing her. Sometimes when we get to know them, a name just pops up!

I think we've pretty much decided on Bellatrix as her name. It's the only name that we keep coming back to.
She's so sweet. She definitely doesn't like staying in a bag. We put her in a bag for transport and she kept poking the end to come out so I opened it and she just wanted to sit on my hand the whole time. We've set her tank up and are letting her get used to her new environment and tomorrow we will see how she feels about eating.
Congratulations on the new snake. Sometimes people really love their snake and are glad to give everything away if only someone will rehome it and really care for it. People know you will really give the snake a good home.
That sounds like a good set up. Forty gal is a nice size for a snake. You can always house a second snake in their if you end up rehoming another snake in need.

I have a lizard and a snake called Firefly. You could just call the snake Jones or Walton or some other interesting people name like Bartholomew.

Were trying to get her to eat now. She wouldn't eat Friday or Saturday so we are going to give her a break for a couple days and try again Wednesday. Shes good and healthly so we aren't too worried about her not wanting to eat. Considering shes had a rough week. Shipped to the guy, then to our friend who kept her a week, and then to us. She'll eat when she feels safe.
She is very nice looking. I wouldn't worry about her not eating. Ball Pythons often go without eating for weeks. She could be pre-shed. It might not show yet. I would give her a good soak and let her rest.
I am sure she will be fine.
I looked up Russo Ball Pythons, but I am not on my home computer and the colours on this laptop arre a little off.

Ive been meaning to update but wedding plans have been taking over my spare time lately.
Bellatrix is doing great. She's eating every week now. Sometimes 2 pinkies. She's shed once and we think she is about the shed again soon. We've been trying to let her be but we are getting to handle her more and more lately. She's a sweet heart. She just wants to sit at firstt and then will work up the courage to roam. She usually ends up scaring herself by buming into my stomach. I have yet to figure that one out.
I am glad Bellatrix has settled in and is doing well. I knew she would eat. They always do.
I looked up the colour. There seems to be more yellow pigment than you would get with a normal ball python. I was away at a wedding and the laptop I was using didn't seem to have accurate colours. It is hard to photograph a snake and get a good picture anyhow.
It is good that she likes to be handled. It is more fun when your snake is older if they like to be with you.
So how are wedding plans going. I am sure there are a thousand things on your mind at once. Remember, whatever happens, it is your special day and everything else is just details. I hope the details work out, but more important have fun and enjoy the experience.
