Sadly a large herd of reindeer has been discovered killed by lightning strike in Norway. Hundreds of them are dead. It seems that animals like reindeer are at much greater risk of being killed by lightning. There was also no way for them to seek shelter even if they had known they should.

I didn't know why they reindeer were more at risk. It is interesting to learn how lightning works under such conditions. It is clear why so many were killed at once. They were all vulnerable at the same time.

It must have been a terrible storm. It is so sad when a beautiful animal is killed. When it is so many at once it hard to grasp the loss. For a species that is at risk this is a terrible loss.

Catslave.

I saw a picture of it on the news it was awful poor deer.
I am shocked that so many  were killed at once. I know lightning is dangerous, but this is worse than anything I have ever heard of before.
I am so sorry about those Reindeer. There seem to be more and more lightning strikes taking lives nowadays....or is it just that it is reported more frequently? I had no idea herds of animals like Reindeer would be at risk from lightning.
I don't know if the lightning strikes are more common. Certainly there are more storms. That could increase the number of lightning deaths.

I have heard of one cow being hit. I didn't know a whole herd of animals could be at risk. It must be animals that stand close together. It is a sad loss. There must have been babies in that group.
