It's been cold today, and rain is never far off, and I walked past the farm just before the invisible sun went down.

There is a community of feral cats who live up at the farm. They hang out in the hay barns there, and in the wood-sheds. The farmer's wife gives them milk, and occasionally raw trimmings from meat, fish etc. But generally the cats are left alone. They are basically hunting cats and won't let humans near them.

I looked in one of the wood-sheds as I passed and had to laugh. There was a whole pile-up of cats sitting on top of each other to keep warm. There must have been half a dozen. The one on the bottom was so happy and tranced-out by the huge cat-duvet on top of it, that it didn't even care I was there. The one on the top must have had a slightly chilly back. I wonder if they swapped places from time to time? 79
Great story!
That's funny. Smiley4
I love the idea of a "cat duvet". I am sure they shift around all night long. Cats never stay still for long and the cat on top would work his way down in time and get warm. The cat on the bottom would want to stretch and shift and would end up on top and then work towards the bottom again. It would be funny to sit and watch them for a while.

Cats are smart, they know about sharing heat and keeping warm. The life of a feral farm cat is not so bad. They have food and warmth and company. It is a very free life.
