Colo, a famous gorilla, was born at the zoo on Dec. 22, 1956. She eventually became a mother of three, grandmother of 16, great-grandmother of 12 and great-great-grandmother of three. She had her 60th birthday party at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium two months ago. There were decorations and treats and much fun was had by all.  After a long and peaceful life Colo died in her sleep in her own "bed". She will be missed by all who knew her.

She lived much longer than anyone expected. Gorilla care is much better now and they understand their nutritional needs. She predates that better understanding. I think she must have been a strong personality with a balanced outlook on life.
Blessings to Colo, and may she be happy, free on the other side. What a good long life she led, and had so many family members! It is said that unnatural surroundings (such as 'captivity') can result in failed matings....infertility, etc.
But Colo must have been quite content to have so many descendants and to live to such a good age.

Bless her Soul.
The zoos that have gorilla troops have very good settings for them. They have display areas(outdoor and indoor) and they have private quarters where the gorillas can eat and sleep in peace. Things might have been a bit rough in hr early years, but I think she lived well in comfortable surroundings.

She had a good life. You wonder what all she learned about life in all those years. I wish she could have told us.
I am glad she passed peacefully in her sleep in her own home. No one could ask for a better death.

I am sure she has joined old friends who have gone on before her.
I saw this yesterday. She had a good long life and lots of family.
Colo was a real matriarch gorilla. I am sure she passed much of her knowledge on  to her many descendants. She had a life well lived. Most people don't do as well.
