I love the pictures of this dog. Granny is a 17 year old dog living in Zimbabwe. She has had a rough life with little medical care.
Her owner has just retired her to a dog sanctuary so she can get better care for the rest of her life.

Granny may be old and worn, but she has a quiet dignity about her. I hope her last years are comfortable and happy. She deserves it.
Oh, dear little Granny made me smile Heart  What a beautiful dog!

Yes. dogs live very different lives in places like that. But it is lovely to hear she was so loved that her caretaker would walk that great distance every week for her sake. The only thing that makes me sad is that they are separated. They must miss each other deeply. Of course, "Granny" will have her needs taken care of in the sanctuary. I just hope her caretaker will be able to visit her regularly....

It's nice to know there is a sanctuary there for dogs.
I thought about Granny being separated from her person, but she had gotten to know the shelter people first. I am going to assume that the caretaker is getting old too. The long walk might have been too much for both of them. After 17 years it would take a real act of love to leave your dog with other people. I am sure if they can visit they will.
It must've been hard for both Granny and her care provider to separate. Those are strong bonds they made. She will be well taken care of and get the medical care she needs now and that is very important.
Sometimes you have to make choices like that. Granny is getting what she needs and can live comfortably. I am sure an old wise dog like Granny understands.
