Most countries have very poor regulations concerning animals being transported to slaughterhouses. Canada has terrible laws and regulations. If they can even be called regulations. I think the general rule is whatever makes the most money. The needs or suffering of the animals is not even considered.

For a country that claims to be humane and is known for its politeness, Canada, my country is failing badly.

This failure rates up there with the live export of animals from the EU. We claim to care about animal welfare, but we don't act like we do. I believe Canada does live export, but I don't think it is to the middle east. The distance would make it unprofitable.
If we could do it cheaply we probably would.
"For instance, in Canada, the “Health of Animals Regulations” state that cattle may transported for up to 52 hours without being provided access to food, water, or given a rest period."

That is incredible! 52 hours?!

Even if petitioning the Government has not yet brought about change, we need to continue to do that. If a constant noise is made one day it will definitely bring about change.

52 hours in cramped transportation with no food, water or rest, and the end result -death by slaughter.
I see not much difference actually to the way Nazis treated humans. And considering what we know and are learning more about today; i.e. the capacity for suffering -emotional, mental, and physical, of all animals, to continue to treat them this way constitutes a crime in my opinion.

I was shocked when I read this. I would like to see the people who make that laws go that long without food, water or sleep. The animals do it in a truck that is open to the cold and heat. That explains the high death rate for transported animals.

We have had no success changing the laws to make them more humane. It is going to take more work. There was a private members bill that tried to improve the standards for animals, but it didn't pass. I think that was the reason for the petition.
We still have a lot of work to do. Too many people think farm animals lead happy lives until they are humanely slaughtered.
We need to keep pushing the truth at them.

This is the stark reality. What we do is a crime. Now we need to make it against the law.
