The headlines do not tell it all. Yes the sea lion grabbed the child and pulled her into the water. However to understand what happened you need to see the whole video and understand that people have been feeding the sea lions in spite of signs forbidding such actions.
I was shocked to see the people reach their hands down to the sea lion. Sea lions are wild animals and they can bite.
This sea lion jumped at the little girl and nearly got her. The family kept reaching to the animal and then they let the child sit on the edge off the dock with her back to the water. The sea lion leaped up and grabbed her dress and pulled her into the water.
People  were quick and she was rescued and no harm came to the sea lion.  However, they put the child in danger by letting her sit like that after the sea lion had already jumped at her. They set the whole thing up by reaching for the animal. Also the people who keep feeding the sea lions from the dock have created a problem.

I am glad I knew the child was okay before I saw the video.

People need to learn to respect wildlife as wildlife. Just because it is cute and has a beautiful face doesn't mean it is warm and friendly. The sea lion just wanted to be fed.  It is really fortunate the child was not hurt.

I hope that this incident does not lead to negative consequences for the sea lion.
