I got another dog.  This one I saw on a friends Facebook post.  She works at a dog kennel/rescue and had an event last Saturday.  Of all the dogs this little guy they called Little Man jumped out to me.  The paws screamed Basset Hound and having lost my Basset Lab mix, Buddy, earlier this year I could't just turn away.

I started asking questions and next thing I knew they put him on hold for me until they got cultures back checking to see why his skin is irritated and his hair is thinning on his back.  He was found on the streets and they suspected it was just from him being on the streets for a while which seems to be the case.  It's actually in a line down his back so I'm wondering if he had a bad reaction to a flea and tick treatment.  They held him waiting for owners but there comes a point where you can't wait any more.

We picked him up this morning and have spent the day getting him introduced with not only Fennec but also we dropped by my mom's and he met Molly and Mia.  Molly loves him because I think he reminds her of Buddy.  She instantly started trying to play with him which she didn't do with Fennec.  Mia will take some time.  She's more uptight as she gets older and we have to be careful.

When Fennec first met him he was so excited it sounded like he was being killed.  He was yelling and hollering it seriously sounded like he was being hurt.  We had to walk them both around the yard 10 feet apart and then slowly able to get closer and closer until Fennec calmed down as we walked down the street.  There was a moment of "oh no what have we done" but Fennec calmed down.  He's still a little unsure at times but they are both trying to play with each other.

We have changed his name from Little Man to Silver Bullet.  I called Buddy little man and I call Fennec little man, so I knew Little Man couldn't stay Little Man.  So Silver Bullet it is.  We thought about naming him Tyrion but after some thought we realized all the reptiles are named after characters from TV or Movies but Fennec is name after the fox he resembles.  So if we had named him Tyrion from Game of Throwns, then Fennec would be the odd man out.  So we went will a similar theme of naming him after his looks kinda.  Silver Bullet was the first name that thought of and Kasey likes it too.  Plus Silver fox.

He's so calm compared to Fennec.  He's just laid back and go with the flow.  When we put him in the car he laid down and started to go to sleep.  He is a Basset Weimaraner mix.  Having grown up with Basset hounds I can say he is mostly Basset.  The only weird thing is he doesn't bark.  At least he hasn't all day.  I don't know much about Weimaraners but I'll have to look them up.  The only time I even heard anything from him was when we were eating and he whined.  I've been told he will bark it's just rare and he does sound like a basset when he barks.  He's very loving and wants to lick non-stop.

He's so little I'm wondering if he will get any bigger.  They think he's about a year old but we won't know much until we've had him a little longer.  The rescue is letting us keep him as long as we want until we decide if he is a good fit for us.  We haven't even paid them anything yet.  They don't take money until we think he is a good fit.  I can already say he is a good fit.  They even offer lifetime baths for him.  Which with his skin irritation they have a medicated shampoo that he will need until it clears up.  Fennec is getting used to him and once we get him to understand he needs to be easier when he plays I think they will do fine.  I don't know why Silver Bullet was left to the streets but he is snoozing behind me right now and will have the best life from her on out with his big brother and reptile siblings.
Dogs Just come to you don't they. I knew there would be another dog in your life.
He is a beauty and I can see his parents in him. He might not be too tall. He could have basset legs. There is a certain sad basset look to his eyes too.
He has that lovely weimaraner colour and coat. He has the weimaraner ears too. I can see why you wanted him. He should be a good fit for Fennec as a companion.

I am sure they will be playing together and be best of friends in no time.

So congratulations on the new dog. Welcome to the family Silver Bullet.
This one just kinda came out of no where. Normally I'm the rescue taking them in but this is the first time I've ever Legitimately taken in a dog from a rescue to adopt.

Both Kasey and I had talked about in another year or so getting another dog for Fennec to play with but those paws did me in. There was no turning back once I knew he was part Basset hound.
He does have big basset feet doesn't he. I love the way they look. He is good looking, but different. It is an interesting look.

However he came to you it was meant to be. A year from now you will probably find another dog, but Silver Bullet needed you right now. I think Fennec and Silver Bullet will look very interesting together. They are both very different and their unique looks will pair together very nicely.

So what is his personality like?

He's very loving always wants to lick and cuddle.  He gets into a lot of stuff very curious but knows what no means. He's not as crazy as Fennec is about playing but he loves to play with toys and plays with Fennec.  He's half of Fennes size so it's funny when they play.  I have a few clips ill see if i can link and put up tomorrow.
You are going to have fun. You have two very different dogs and their relationship with you and each other will be interesting and sometimes entertaining. It seems to me that bassets are very loveable and affectionate.

Will he get bigger or will he always be much smaller than Fennec?

We're not sure if he will get any bigger. Not knowing his age we won't know unless he grows. I think he could get a little bigger. His skin is squishy like a puppy so he could be between 8months to a year.
He does seem kind of young and puppyish. He plays like a young dog.
His eye colour is beautiful and it is a perfect match for his fur colour. No wonder you called him Silver Bullet.  He is the right dog for you. You just have the best luck with finding dogs or having them come to you.

How is Fennec feeling about no longer being an only dog?

Fennec is adjusting ok.  He likes to play with Silver Bullet but Bullet has actually been wearing him down so there are times he gets fed up and we put Bullet in the crate so Fennec can have some quite time.  He's been a lot more loving too.  Fennec likes him just needs breaks sometimes.
Fennec is like a kid who just got a younger brother. It is a great experience, but it can be a little tiring.
It is good you are sensitive to fennec's needs. Each dog will need some special time with you and some special time with each other and some time alone to just relax. Have fun  juggling that.

It must be fun going for walks with them. Dogs always make a simple walk look like an adventure.
