Toronto Police dogs will soon be much safer on the job. An unnamed donor is providing the money to outfit the dogs with proper Kevlar vests. This donation is in response to a police dog being stabbed in 2015. Lonca survived and was back on the job, but it should never have happened. Now with their vests they will be safer.

This is good news. No one wants to see a working dog get injured. We feel even stronger about police dogs that do risk their lives to "serve and protect" like any police officer.  I hope this is a trend and other K9 units will someday be equipped with safety vests. If dogs are going to work for us we have an obligation to protect them.
A great idea. This should be everywhere. It is a pity that it needed a private donation to make this possible.
That was very decent of the private donor.

And obviously sensible. I can't believe that police dogs weren't fitted out with kevlar vests from the very beginning!
You are right. the dogs should always have been protected. It should be part of the police budget to outfit the dogs. It shouldn't have needed a privet donor to provide essential equipment for city employees.

The Kevlar vests should be part of the dogs normal equipment.
