A couple visited a sled dog kennel north of Barrie and the video they shared has called into question the way the dogs are treated. The conditions they live under are deplorable. The dogs do not have a  minimum comfort and their basic needs are not being met.
Sadly this is the sled dog industry standard.

It is sad that the puppies are forced to work when they are still very young. It is sad that the dogs have so little care.

This is not the first time the sled dog industry has been called into question. After the Vancouver winter Olympics a  dog sled kennel downsized by killing 100 dogs.

It is time that sled dog owners were held to a basic standard of care for their dogs. If that minimum standard can't be met then the business should not be licensed to sell rides with sled dogs. Anything less than that is legalizing animal cruelty.
How awful! This IS animal cruelty, and I am mighty surprised the sled dog "industry" has been allowed to get away with it for so long.
Sadly, it seems that when the concept of "industry" or "business" comes into it, animals get treated like slaves, and even worse. How much better it would be if the dogs were treated decently!
Downsizing, and killing 100 dogs....that is just horrendous.

It  was horrible and it only came to light when the man who did the killing tried to get some kind of worker compensation.

I am sure there have been other dog culls and downsizing in the sled dog industry. However this was a massive cull that was done in a horrific manner. It couldn't be ignored and covered up. There was a mass grave of dogs that had all died around the same time.

Even if there are no more massacres, the dogs lead horrible lives. They are living in squalid conditions with little care or food.
The dogs are a means to making money. No one cares about the dogs. You are right, when the word "industry" or "business" is used, the animals involved are treated badly.

It is like greyhound racing. The dogs exist to make money and are considered expendable and not worth treating well since they are expendable.
