Shelters and resources in some areas are overloaded by stray dogs. The only hope for these dogs is transport to areas that want dogs. PAAS or the Peaceful Animal Adoption Shelter does a Ride to Rescue every week from Oklahoma to Colorado. The dogs are received by the Denver Dumb Friends League. As many as 50 dogs a week are transported.

It's an amazing operation. At that rate over two thousand dogs are rescued every year.

They are just one set of rescuers. Dogs that in the past would have been euthanized are now finding good homes in Colorado.
This is part of a growing trend to want a shelter dog. People who used to want purebred dogs now want a rescue dog.
Shelters that used to just euthanize dogs are now finding help to transport those dogs to places where they are needed.

There are enough places willing to take dogs and groups willing to do the transportation, so no shelter should ever be killing healthy dogs. Even dogs with medical issues are able to find homes. Dogs are even being brought in from other countries.
Some day the global stray problem will be brought under control. The real solution is to stop strays from being born on the streets through spay and neuter programs. Until that happens saving the dogs through transport is a good enough solution.
