There is a family in Australia who has pets the way I have pets. The count may be a little different, but not a lot different.
One reason for so many pets is the fact that they have rescued pet reptiles. Reptiles don't do well in shelters. They need to be with people who love and understand reptiles.

I don't have the dogs and cats or the centipede. I might put fish in my pond this year. I have a whole set of lizards with parts missing or some kind of damage. Some of my snakes are older rehomes and of course I have Jake the Krinkle Snake.
I have a baby pink krinkle  snake that hatched last spring. I still don't know if she will make it, but she does eat and she is growing.  Any suggestions for names. I say she, but the krinkles are bad enough that it will be impossible to tell if the snake is male or female. Jake might actually be female. It is impossible to tell.

A number of my rehome snakes are showing their age and I could have a number of losses in the next year or so. So far I don't have anything that I think will outlive me. If it happens I have a commitment from someone to take them or at least rehome them.
I can understand these people. Someone has to take in the unwanted reptiles. I wish I had a monitor, but I do have Barrie the Tegu. He is almost as big. He is sleeping very comfortably right now. He has a spa treatment and a good meal today. He is in reptile heaven and I bet he is dreaming sweet things. Heart

Someone has to love and care for the unwanted reptiles.
What a wonderful family. They are dedicated to rescuing animals of all sorts.
Some people don't understand reptiles, I think. You do, and they certainly do. You are lucky to also know others (at the Reptile Center) who also understand.

How about Lenora or Leonora for the pink krinkle snake? Names are so difficult. Something that sounds good to one person doesn't sound right to another. I was lucky. My Creatures came with ready-made names. In Toby's case, all we had to do was watch his reaction to all kinds of names we randomly said. When he really looked excited, that was his name. Maybe Pink Krinkle Snake wil give you clues when you say all sorts of names.
Koori is the only one I named myself, and that was just because of the sound of the word plus it meant "black fellow".
Maybe I should call her Pink Krinkle Snake. It doesn't sound too bad. She is still very small, but I will try an get pictures soon.

This family understands the need to rescue the odd pets. They deserve a chance at life and they can be good pets. Sometimes reptiles end up being rejected because they live a long time. Not everyone is willing to care for a pet for 25 or even 35 years. They can get quite big too. It would be great if everyone getting a pet thought it over and decided if they could commit to what the pet would grow to be and how long it would live. People can't even commit to a guinea pig and they live 5 years and only weigh a few pounds.

I feel good knowing that there are other people out there who choose to rescue reptiles. There seem to be people everywhere who are able to help animals in need. We don't always hear about them, but they are out there.
