An undergrad student in California designed and built bee hotels for native bees. They are meant to attract the native mason bees. These bees are solitary and the hotels provide safe places for the females to lay their eggs.

He designed his hotels as a way of studying the bees. This is a very good thing. We all need to work to help the native bees. Understanding what they need and want helps all of us to help the bees.

I like the look of the hotels. I have seen similar ideas in some parts of Toronto.
Bees may be careful about new things. I am sure they will one day fill the hotels.
