The Animal Defense League Fund has files a $100,000.00 dollar law suit against, Gwendolyn Vercher, a neglectful owner.
Justice the horse was 300 pounds underweight and covered in lice. He also suffered other damage over the years in her care.
Justice(formerly called Shadow) now lives in a horse sanctuary and will require special care for the rest of his life.

According to state law animals have rights so it is possible the horse could win. The money would pay for his care and it would set an interesting legal precedent. If animals could recover damages from abusers that would change things. The fines for animal abuse a usually small, but a law suit could much larger. This is a case that is worth watching.
