I have had my second loss this week. It has only been days since Martha died and now this morning I had another loss.

I brought Ella the pine snake home so she could spend some last months in peace. She seemed so tired, but she also was comfortable. This morning when I got up she had died in her sleep during the night. It must have been very quick and quiet. She was still lying in a comfortable position.

I am glad Ella died peacefully, but I really thought we would have more time together.
She can join her Louis both in spirit and in body. She will rest in the garden with him.

This is Ella saying goodbye to Louis when he died. She knew he was gone and she has never been the same since.

I am proud of my pine snakes Daniel and Rosie for making Ella feel so welcome. Heart

Sadly I am going to have other losses soon. I know the signs. Even the best of care can't turn back the clock. Some of my pets are very much at the end of their lives.  Sadsmiley

I am sure that you gave them all the very best care. I'm sorry to read your news, but at least she is with her partner again. Blessings to both of them!
Sweet Ella, bless her.

It seems she wanted a safe place to say goodbye to this world. And she found it. Heart

But I am sorry for your loss Catherine. Your animals have a nice life and a peaceful place to pass. Both are wonderful things to give them.
It's nice that the others welcomed Ella for her last few days.
Thank-you for your kind words. I am at peace about my animals passing, but it doesn't make it easy. I rehome animals that are getting old so they can have a safe place to pass. I want them to enjoy their last days. Some like Earl surprised me and lived five years and left me with a wonderful son who is so like him. Others, like Ella, seem happy to let go once they feel comfortable and secure. I think now she needed a quiet more private place to let go. Having other pine snakes to watch over her made her feel more secure.

It does feel right that Ella and Louis are together  again. They were a pair for many years. Daniel Pine is 8 years old and she wasn't their oldest or youngest child.

Sam my corn snake has not been the same since his mate died a few months ago and I think he will join her soon.
A number of my little friends are going to cross the rainbow bridge this summer. I am going to do my best to make it peaceful for all of them.
It really is the summer of the rainbow bridge. Desert Sand "Sandie" has been showing his age for a year. He is much older than I was told when I rehomed him. He died Friday. I feel sad for his mate. She just produced eggs and she was so attached to him.

Sandie is the grey snake. You can see how she has clung to him. I think she knew he was failing.
Sandie was always a gentleman and a very fine snake. He was the star of Big on Bloor street festival a number of years. He did enjoy meeting people. Sandie was one of the prettiest snakes I have ever seen. He is gone now and I hope he has found a happy place across the rainbow bridge. Heart

I wish I could say this is the last time I will stand at the rainbow bridge this summer, but the guinea pigs I rescued are getting very old. They are shrinking before my eyes. I lives might parallel for a while, but theirs move so much faster.
Sorry to hear about your loses Catherine. We lost our two lurchers in the spring after 14 years so I know how it feels x
I am so sorry about your Lurchers. That is rough.
If they have been together 14 years, it makes sense that they would both go around the same time.

It is hard to lose them, but all the wonderful memories of the past 14 years must make it worth it.

It is good to hear from you. How have you been.
Yes they were sisters too so very connected. I have been good thanks, doing a lot of reiki on animals which is so rewarding when you see such positive changes in them. Hope you are keeping well too, despite your loses.
My husband has birds some of his are getting old and my cat Bessie is 19 and hanging in there the vet said just take one day at a time,I'm so sorry you lost your lovelies Catherine that's the problem we know we'll outlive our pets.
Your girls were sisters. It was beautiful that they were able to send their whole lives together.
I am well in spite of the losses. I knew they were coming. A number of my animals were old when I took them in. I had a feeling they would go around the same time.

At 19 Bessie is an old girl. Each day is a gift when pets reach that kind of age. Your husband must look at his birds and know which ones are looking old an be prepared for losses.

I knew Sandie was getting old a few years ago. He missed the last two Big on Bloor street festivals because he was not looking his best anymore and I didn't think he was strong enough to handle it. I can't believe there are eggs in the incubator with his name on them. He surprized me. He had stopped eating and he seemed so weak.

His mate, Kateri has really settled in now with another young female and a very young male. I didn't want her to go through another loss.
