A city court in South Korea ruled that is is "illegal to kill dogs for meat" !

This is a landmark case and could be very influential ....not only in South Korea but eventually in Asia?? At the very least it is a move forward.

However, of course there is opposition from "dog farmers" who are outraged at what they call double standards in meat farming and consumption, and for some reason believe dogs for meat and dogs for "pets" are two different breeds of Beings. This is not the end by any means with 17,000 dog farms across S. Korea, but even a small move forward could be at least a beginning....? Let us hope.
This is the first time a court has ruled dog meat illegal. It is significant that it is in Korea. Yulin may get more publicity, but eating dog meat is very much entrenched in Korean culture. It is going to be hard to change that. Also dog meat farms are a significant part of the economy.

It is a thing of the past however. The younger generation is not eating dog meat and the dog farms are not new business ventures. Getting even one court to outlaw killing dogs for meat is the beginning of change. We could see a sudden shift or we could see a very slow movement away from dog meat. Other countries might resist change or they might want to change before Korea so they can appear to be more modern. Either way change is coming.

It may be too early for a big celebration, but we can be happy for every stage of the changes that will end the killing of dogs for meat. I want to be able to look back at dog meat as a thing of the past.

So do I. And so do many millions of people worldwide. But in a way the eating of dogs is a very important and vital issue which should make people examine the slaughtering and eating of any sentient animal.

Many dog farmers are shouting about others who eat pigs, cows, chickens etc....and why are dogs any different?

Okay so it is the horrendous method of slaughter and torture which is the main issue.

But true....what right do meat eaters have to say dogs cannot be eaten but pigs for example, can?

Now if those dog farmers knew what I know about the Soul of a Dog, they would be stunned and amazed.

Yet at the same time, it is only a lack of Love that divides many humans from the Soul of a Pig....or a Sheep....Goat, etc.

Those sacrificial dogs have come to show the world something that is for sure. I hope it will end. But many ethical questions will still remain even when eating dogs is history.
There are a number of issues at  work here. The way they kill the dogs is horrible and it is also a health hazard. They do not follow even minimum standards of hygiene. That alone should shut it down.

Dogs have long had a special bond with humans. Since before recorded history dogs have been companion animals sharing their lives with us. To eat them now is a betrayal of the interspecies trust that has developed.

Then there is the issue of eating meat. We have to kill an animal before we can eat meat. If we object to dogs being killed, what about the killing of other animals.

We don't have to resolve all these issues at once. First we need to stop killing and eating dogs. That will make the world a cleaner kinder place. After that we can face the issue of eating meat in general.

Let's improve what we can right now. Stopping the dog meat industry is a big step towards being better. It is something that we can do.
