I found this story on another forum. It is inspiring, because it shows that lions are not the "wild beasts" they are often described as:

In fact, lions have a strong sense of right and wrong. They also remember people or a kindness shown to them. They have been known to befriend humans on occasions.

In the case of the young girl, I'm sure that they sensed her vulnerability and the aggression of the men concerned. So they acted to protect her.
That is beautiful about Christian the Lion. I am not surprized he recognized the guys. Animals are smarter than most people realize. How could any creature forget that much love and kindness.Heart

The young girl is a different issue. They did not know her, but she was a "cub" in danger from those that meant her harm. The lions recognized that fact and amazingly came to her rescue. The world is clearly a much better place than we realize.
It is built in to the nature of any parent(of any species) to protect a child. We protect our own children and we will even protect other people's children. When we rescue a kitten we are protecting some mama cat's child.

It seems that animals are doing the same back for us. How wonderful is that.Heart
How marvellous and intriguing. I hope they have caught the other men involved. She must have triggered the lions parental instincts and they rallied to her aid. It's also intriguing that they left as soon as the "Good Guys" arrived.

I've seen the story of Christian the lion a few times before but never tire of hearing it. A real tear jerker..... in a good way.
I keep telling people about the lions protecting the girl. Their responses are interesting. Animal lovers respond that of course the lions protected her. People who are not so keen about animals are more sceptical or surprized.
This is one of those stories that tells us a lot about the people hearing it.
It seems that lions can tell the good guys from the bad. I hope they caught all the guys. They certainly can't flee into the bush. I am sure the lions would remember them.
