PETA has done a report showing that animal research has failed to help humans.
They point out a number of ways that this is true. For example research money that could have been used to help humans is wasted on animal studies. Many of the results do not apply to humans. Drugs tested on animals often prove useless or dangerous to humans.  Some experiments are such that they should never be done no matter what.

We really need to respond to this. Animal testing is an archaic holdover from another century. If we can move forward into the 21st century in so many other areas, why can't we move forward in this area. Why do we cling to animal cruelty and outdated methods?  We will never make any progress if we don't change how we do things.
The fact that Dr. Trunnell is a former animal experimenter, and has now dismissed such techniques, is very significant. Both authors of the report are highly qualified Ph.Ds The evidence is clear. All that is needed now is strong pressure on governments - in the case of the PETA petition, within the USA.

Many scientists don't want to change their techniques, having built up their laboratories based on animal cages and with staff employed not only on experimentation but also feeding, cleaning, etc. BUT they can be forced to change, if governments and charities make funding only available for valid alternative techniques.

Here is a good list of charities which do or do not fund experiments on animals:

Note: Cancer Research Wales does NOT fund animal experiments, but Cancer Research UK DOES use animals. This a classic case, showing how some organisations are not willing to update.
Sad, but I was unable to add my voice, as PETA's online form is restricted to zip codes etc I presume in the US.

But this is a step forward, especially when the dearth of findings from animal research are endorsed by respected scientists. Let us hope these horrendous experiments will be ended as soon as possible.
That is a really intense list of research groups. There are groups on the list who test on animals even though there is no sign that animals even suffer from anything remotely like the human disease. So much money and so many animals lives lost for nothing.
If we conducted valid relevant research we might get some results.

It does answer the question about why there is no cure for cancer. There are treatments, but progress is slower than expected because methods of research are old and outdated.

How can minds dedicated to science and progress still cling to the past and useless techniques?
