I thought how about to have a post about good animal movies ? These should not be documentaries or about extinct animals. These should be movies which show the affection of humans and their pets. If you know any animal movies like that, share it in this post.

The first one which i want to share is Hachi: A Dog's Tale.

I'm pretty sure there are several dog movies but this one really captured the bond between a human and animal quite well. It is based on a heartwarming true story. I rarely get emotional but when i watched the ending scene, my eyes were filled with tears which is not surprising since i am one of the biggest animal lovers on the planet.

(The story is about a Professor who finds a lost puppy which has been freighted to America from Japan and accidentally left at the train station. The professor ends up taking the puppy home, planning to search out its intended destination and send it on to its real owner. However the search for thepuppy's owner is unsuccessful.  Over the next year or so, Professor Parker and the dog Hachi become very closer.Hachi develops a daily routine of walking to the train station to wait for Parker to return. One day, Hachi waits patiently as the train arrives, but there is no sign of Parker because he died (of a cerebral hemorrhage during a lecture in class). Hachi continues to return to the station and wait every day. As time passes, Parker's wife Cate sells the house and Hachi is sent to live with Parker and Cate's daughter Andy, her husband Michael. However, Hachi escapes and finds his way back to the station, where he sits at his usual spot.

Cate comes back to visit Parker's grave on the tenth anniversary of his death. She is stunned to see a now elderly Hachi still waiting at the station. Hachi continues waiting until his body can wait no longer, and is last seen lying in the snow, alone and still, although he is comforted by a final vision of Parker finally appearing and picking him up to go, presumably to the afterlife.)

After the movie ended, they showed the picture of the real dog Hachiko. The movie was based on the real Japanese Akita dog Hachiko, who was born in Odate, Japan in 1923. After the death of his owner, Ueno Hidesaburo in 1925, Hachiko returned to the Shibuya train station the next day and every day after that for the next nine years until he died in March 1935.

No wonder why they built a bronze statue of Hachiko in front of the Shibuya train station in his honor. I highly recommend this movie.
I love that movie, "Hachiko" ! Yes it is a very good one.

I am always finding good films concerning animals. I quite liked "Grizzly Falls", where a little boy gets lost in the wilderness and makes friends with a Grizzly bear. Some of it is a little bit funny in places, and some of it might make you cry.
This is the link to it on You Tube:

The movie is in English but has (Spanish I think) subtitles at the bottom of the screen, and may need earphones or earbuds for good sound quality, but it is a good family film.

Another very good film is "A Dog's Purpose" -about a dog who has many different incarnations with different people. That is a very funny film, but it has a message I think too.
That is available on DVD. But definitely worth adding to your collection!
I was VERY lucky last year as a dear Colleague bought it for me at Christmas as a "thank you" for doing some work! Smiley4

If I find or remember some more good ones I will add them here, Sameer.
There is a good list here:

You are all way ahead of me when it comes to movies about animals.

I have heard the story of Hachiko, but I didn't know it was made into a movie.

I  have never heard of Grizzly Falls and I really must watch A Dog's Purpose.

That is an amazing list of 25 movies. I have seen Marlie and Me. I am sure I saw Benji and Lassie Come Home.
I have seen all the sled dog movies, but I didn't know that Turner and Hooch was about a cop with a dog for a partner.

I think one of my favourite animal movies is The Three Lives of Thomasina about a cat that returns from death. I loved The Black Stallion and of course The Yearling. I read the books first and I though the movies were good.  Call of the Wild was good, the book was better.

Who can forget The Story of Hector the Stowaway Dog. It is based on a true story. He got separated from his ship and he tracked his owner by boarding a ship with the same cargo. He rightly concluded that they would be heading for the same port.

G Force about hero guinea pigs is fun, especially if you live with a guinea pig.

I will have to think about it an see if I can remember any more movies.
When i searched for 'The Story of Hector the Stowaway Dog', this is the name i saw --- 'The Ballad of Hector the Stowaway Dog: Who the Heck Is Hector?' (1964) ... Is that the one ?

There is 2 movies for The Yearling (1946). I think you should have seen the 1994 film, the another one is from 1946. I will try to watch the 1994 film. It seems like in 'A Dog's Purpose', the dog speaks so sometimes they would show the animated one. I mostly prefer animals as real and not to talk but however i will watch that movie.

I would suggest some..Watch 'Paulie', a parrot that talks like humans so that means it should be animated. Then check out these good ones, 'Beethoven' which has the cuddly dog st.bernard, 'Flicka' has horse and 'Fly Away Home' which has geese.
"Beethoven", which you mentioned above, Sameer, is a classic. It resulted in several follow-ups.
I forgot about Paulie. I love that movie. Flicka was a childhood favourite. I only know the older version of the yearling. I didn't know it had been remade. I should see if I can find it.

The Ballad of Hector the Stowaway Dog is the song that goes with the movie. I think it is an old  Disney movie.

Who can forget Bambi the children's classic.

I do want to see A Dog's Purpose soon. If only I had some time off.

I noted that before but after seeing the ratings and comments, it seems like those follow ups are not that good compared to the first one.
The first one was better and only some people liked Beethoven 2. The rest felt it made too many changes and people don't like change.

War Horse is a powerful story, but I only saw the stage version. I am not sure the movie is as good.

I loved the cartoon Ratatouille. It makes the rat the hero and he is a loveable hero and it is about cooking and I like cooking.
It is a perfect movie for me.

Babe was special. I loved the little pig and the farmer.
I agree Babe is special. Before some days i saw 'A Dog's Purpose ' and 'Marley and Me'. As you know people always have different opinions. For me, both of those movies are ok and i can't say that they are equal to 'Hachi: A Dog's Tale'. I think that 'Hachi: A Dog's Tale' is the best dog movie ever.
