This is a happy story even though Kimchi the dog is blind. Ginger the golden retriever has taken over the job of seeing eye dog.
This allows Kimchi to have a full life. kimchi trusts Ginger and Ginger understands that he is the eyes for Kimchi.
Together they walk around and Kimchi feels safe. Ginger looks pleased with himself.

Dogs really are amazing. They will do anything for a human. It seems they will do anything for each other.
The video wouldn't play for me for some reason. Aww! I would have liked to have seen them "go maling" together! Never mind.

Bless them both. Kimchi and Ginger! Kimchi must feel so much more confident now about life.
I have two dogs myself. I was just wondering what they would feel like if they were blind. To be honest, I do not want to thank you for that. Especially with wild animals, I imagine the chances of survival are not too high when they are blind. Undecided
There are only a few animals that can survive in the wild if they are blind. It would have to be an animal that doesn't rely on its sight as its primary sense. The animal would have to be able to find food without sight. I think some animals would manage.

Dogs use their sight, but they use their other senses as well. A blind dog or a blind cat can do well in their own home. Ginger allows Kimchi to enjoy life out in public. The blind dog is able to run with Ginger's help.

Animal's feelings about things are different than our feelings. I find animals accept handicaps without question. People will dwell on the sight they have lost. A dog will work with the senses he has and live the best he can. Any handicapped pets I have cared for seem untroubled by their differences. They just accept life as life.  I think we can learn from their attitude.
I do think blindness would be different for a wild animal, as animals I love said.
Dogs can do quite well in familiar surroundings when they have lost their sight. They also have us to help. And in Kimchi's case, he has Ginger to help! Which is great.
That's a whole different thing to a wild animal out with the "pack" who may be in varied surroundings at any time of day or night.
I think any wild animal would be seriously disabled.
Even though dogs particularly rely on their sense of smell to a great extent.
It is going to vary from species to species. Over the years I did have the odd dwarf hamster who was blind. They have such poor sight and are nocturnal so lack of vision didn't seem to matter. They lived pretty much the same as the other hamsters.
Some pack animals might manage because the pack would help them. I have heard of a wild horse being blind and managing because the herd  protected and guided her. Birds probably wouldn't be able to survive. Marine mammals might be okay. Some must depend on sound rather than sight.

There are blind fish that live in caves who actually don't have eyes. Other creatures that always live in dark caves would lack sight. Even if the eyes were there they would be underdeveloped.

We think of the loss of vision as a catastrophe, but blind people get around very well and do many ordinary things. I think a blind animals would be much like that.
