A Lethbridge Alberta police officer was first on scene when a young deer was hit by a car and badly injured. The deer was suffering and ending its life was probably the kindest thing to do. The police officer used his police vehicle to run back and forth over the deer a number of times, injuring worse and worse each time. He caused the animal a lot of pain, distress, fear and immense suffering. The deer did eventual die.  It is brutal and I did watch the video.

The obvious question was why not call expert help to deal with the deer or us the police firearm to end the deer's life quickly and humanely. Anything would have been better than running over the animal over and over again.

People are understandably upset by what happened.

I think there need to be consequences. What he did was animal cruelty. It also showed very bad judgement in someone who is a trained police officer. I question his ability to be a police officer if he could choose to do what he did.

The whole incident  is being investigated. The police chief did say he found the video disturbing. He also said that they usually use a firearm if an animal must be euthanized quickly.

This is the most disturbing thing I have ever seen.
The sick cruelty is not restricted to this perverted policeman. I don't usually read the comments, but this one is very sarcastic and disturbing in the extreme:

"Obviously the cop should have held the poor injured Bambi tenderly for free until the free doctor arrived from the free veterinary hospital and after pumping the deer with free opioids air lifted it for free to the nearest free animal emergency care and rehabilitation centre, where dozens of free veterinary professionals would spend thousands of hours of their free time taking care of the injured deer.

Then the whole ordeal would appear on your FaceBook feed as an endearing montage of the poor deer getting bigger and better over time and finally rejoining his happy family in a tearful release scene and lives on happily ever after!"

The callousness of humanity extends quite widely, it seems....
I didn't read the comments. I had seen enough after the video. There are some nasty callous people out there. It is also a stupid comment. There is no free vet, free helicopter, free meds etc. The deer was almost certainly fatally injured. The only thing that could have been done was mercy killing. Weirdly, the police officer  was probably trying to kill the deer when he ran over it.
He just showed poor judgement. When his car didn't kill the deer the first time and actually caused more suffering, he needed to stop and find a better way. If he didn't think he could shoot the deer, he should have called whatever agency handles wildlife in the area. Anything was better than running over the animal repeatedly.

I am not sure why no one tried to stop him. Maybe the police in the area dangerous.
