This has been a bad winter and we are all tired of it. But for some it has been desperate, even fatal.

Animals both wild and domestic have had it rough.

The Winnipeg Humane Society is doing a wonderful job of helping animals.

In Toronto it has been the birds that have suffered.

I am just glad there are people out there feeding the birds and helping them to survive.
Three cheers for Toronto Wildlife and all the good they do.
This has been the worst winter in many years. Spring can't come soon enough.
It's great that the humane society is helping strays. I am glad to hear that. But who could just leave their dogs outside for long periods of time in that sort of weather? Do they mean turned out into their gardens, or yards unsupervised?

Sled dogs are used to it but not many other breeds. Dogs' feet can get terribly damaged by ice too. They might look a bit funny but boots for dogs are necessary in severe weather like that.

Well it's Spring Equinox in 2 days! Hopefully your Spring will come soon.
It has been an extremely severe winter over there, and in many areas of the US as well.

Here it was the exact opposite. For the first time in my life-memory (!) there was NO FROST during the winter. As Spring flowers grow now quite naturally -UNnaturally, Marigolds are in flower! They usually flower late summer/ Autumn. What happened is they were not killed by frost, and are now in bloom at totally the wrong time of year. But I suppose it is all good news for the bees, who need everything they can find right now.

I am glad someone is having spring right now. I love it when flowers survive the winter to bring us early joy.

It has been a very severe winter. Both pets and wild animals have had a hard time. I can't imagine why anyone would leave a dog outside. They keep warning us on the radio to keep pets inside on extreme cold alert nights.
The different groups working with street cats have done a heroic job of rescuing and shelter building. Some of the street cats just won't adjust to life as a pet so they build them shelters and feed them so they can have as good a life as possible.
Once again there are guardian angels out there doing the best they can to help animals.Angel
Sadly, for some it is too late. Many birds have been lost this winter.Smiley19
