These are really cute pictures. I find it interesting to see what animals were chosen by what American State.

Now I find myself wondering if my Province has an official animal.
Definitely some interesting choices there. The baby moose is adorable.

Each state and territory here has its own floral and fauna emblem. Pity the government is doing a marvelous job at destroying them.
Now I really need to find out if Canadian Provinces have official animals.
What animals did they choose in Australia.

There are some interesting and cute choices. Some make sense, like the Maine Coone cat in Maine, but other choices seen odd, but really cute
This will test my memory!

Victoria - Leadbeater's possum, Helmeted honeyeater, weedy sea dragon, and pink heath
New South Wales - Platypus, Kookaburra, Eastern blue groper, waratah
Queensland - Koala, Brolga, anemone fish, cooktown orchid
South Australia - hairy nosed wombat, piping shrike, leafy sea dragon, sturt's desert pea
Western Australia - numbat, black swan, kangaroo paw
Tasmania - Tasmanian devil, yellow wattle bird, tasmanian blue gum
ACT - Gang-gang cockatoo, bluebell
NT - Red kangaroo, wedge-tailed eagle, sturt's desert rose
That is an interesting collection. I recognize many of them. What is a Numbat? Is it related to a wombat or is that way too obvious.

I know my birth province, Manitoba has the Bison as its animal and British Columbia has the Spirit Bear. Spirit Bears are a light phase of the black bear. They are almost white, but not albino.
Hmm how do you describe a numbat. Not like a wombat. They're more like an anteater. Red/brown white striped marsupial that eats termites.

Is that the Kermode bear? This photographer I follow shoots bears, his pictures are incredible. John E Marriott wildlife photography or something on facebook or he has a web page.
We don't seem to have state animals here (UK) that I know of. Perhaps because the place isn't big enough. But certain areas have a preponderance of certain kinds of wildlife. Badgers, foxes and buzzards do well where I live....and then in Scotland, there are the Eagles....
Yes the Spirit Bear is the Kermode Bear. They are beautiful and mysterious looking.

I looked up a picture of a Numbat and they look nothing like a wombat. The are clearly an anteater, but they make me think of chipmunks. They are pretty looking.

I knew England had foxes and badgers, but I did not know about the buzzards. Do you have a national animal? I am thinking it is a lion.
A hedgehog would be cuter.
I know that most counties in Wales choose an animal or bird as an emblem.
Here in Powys we have the Red Kite or Barcud Coch as we call them in Welsh.

Catherine, Common Buzzards are just that, very common. The Red Kite is less so but making a good come back. At one point they were only found in the North of Scotland and in the Welsh mountains, now they are much more wide spread.

In Scotland they have Golden Eagles and Ospreys, and generally throughout Britain we have kestrels and other small hawks.

And of course in Wales we have a national flower in the form of the Daffodil, and we also use the Leek as a national emblem as well.

The English flower is the Rose and in Scotland it's the thistle.

The Welsh Animal has to be the Red Dragon or Ddraig Goch (from Merlin's dream) which is on our flag.

I would guess that the Scottish National animal would be Nessie!!

As for England, I really don't know. The Royal standard has the Lion and the Unicorn on it. so maybe one of those, but that should be British rather than English.
I am guessing that no one has the common buzzard as a national animal. Pity that, they are a very practical and useful bird.

That is pretty classy having a dragon as a national animal. I did not know Wales had the daffodil as a national flower. I shall think of that if my flowers ever bloom this year.

We have Eagles and hawks, even Kestrels, but I have never seen a Kite. I am not sure we have them in North America.

I did check and the National animal of England is the Lion, because of its bravery. No one mentioned a unicorn. There are definitely not too many of those around. I know I have never seen one.
Many have seen Nessie so he should have national animal status somewhere. Smiley4
