Bumble Bees are declining in numbers in Europe and North America. The real force behind this decline is climate change. Bumble Bees cannot survive the higher temperatures.

This decline is very bad. Bumble Bees are among our best pollinators. Our environment needs them if it is going to stay balanced. We need them for our pollinator dependent food crops.

There are things we can do to help. We can plant in ways that benefit  the Bumble Bees and other Bees. We can reject the use of toxic pesticides. Reducing pesticides will help many insects and we need all of those insects.

We have a problem, but we can be part of the solution by our actions. Toronto has declared itself a bee city and pesticides are not allowed. Many gardens are planted with bees in mind. If we all help in any way we can we can save the Bumble Bees. Of course long term we are going to have to do the work to reverse climate change or at least keep it from getting worse.

For now I am planning my flower planting for the spring. I am getting my Bumble Bees a Rugosa Rose. They rose is pretty and I know the Bumble Bees like them.
