In the midst of a global pandemic  where businesses are hurting, there is one area that is extra busy. Pet food sales!
People are stocking up on pet food. People are not sure what the future is like so they are stocking up on anything their pets will need.

The first thing I did when I realized what was happening was bring home lots of guinea pig food.
I am not letting my piggies go hungry.

I volunteer at a reptile store and we have seen a surge in sales of snake and lizard food. We sell birds and bird seed and people are buying extra bags of seed. We get asked the same question by everyone. Will we still be open.  People want to be sure they can feed their pets.

We may not have toilet paper, but we do have pet food.
Our supermarkets ran out of kitty litter I managed to get some out of our local pet store where I usually get it any way I already had a store of my cats food I buy it and stock up when it's on special I haven't thought to check in the stores for it yet,my daughter had trouble getting her cats usual fresh meat but she managed to get another brand that they're tolerating o.k. and her husband managed to pick some up that they froze, they can't get the right dog food so had to buy canned food for them.
It sounds like people are hoarding pet food too. I just bought what I needed. I bet some people have cases of food and many extra bags of cat litter.

Your daughter was wise to freeze the special food her cats need. It may be hard to get if this goes on too long.
I am glad you have what Edward needs. It is always best to have a supply of the things you use regularly.
The store I work at sold out of the essentials first but pet food was about a week behind. We are finally getting things in again and Thursday they took the store wide cap off. We had been limited to 1000 pcs a truck to get those essentials. We are getting things in but they are still selling out because the panic buying has been capped to no more than 3 per person and toilet paper is down to 1.

I personally buy pet food one month at a time and I had just gotten all the dogs and cat food the second week of March. I bulk buy rats twice a year for the snakes and I breed my own dubias for the lizards. About the only thing different I did was I bought seeds so I could guarantee the veggie and fruit animals would have food down the road... but I was planning on doing that anyway this year and to take advantage of the creek situation to filter the water for the garden.
I am glad you can get what you need. Seeds are a good idea. Fresh veggies will be welcome if stores supplies get scarce. They taste  better anyhow. Having such a big supply of reptile food is a great help. You must have a good sized freezer.

We are still struggling with supplies like toilet paper, paper towels and essentials. Stores are limiting how much we can buy and they only let people in a few at a time. The rest wait out on the sidewalk.
There was a real run on food at Pet Value, but they restock quickly and they keep a fair amount of food on hand. I just bought another bag of guinea pig food because I might be too busy next week and getting around in not so easy right now.

The reptile store is busy with food sales. Our suppliers are good and we brought in a lot more than usual. People really want us to tell them that we will still be there. I guess we all want something to seem normal.

What is really noticeable is the number of people who want a pet to be with them while they are stuck at home. We have sold a lot of different pets: birds, fish, turtles, lizards and snakes. We even sold the one young rabbit we had left. People who have been thinking of a pet are coming in now. Many would have gotten a pet for March break anyhow. People like to have some time at home with their new pet. This time they will likely have a month at home, hopefully not more.

Pets are really helping people cope. There is just no need to hoard pet food. The stores are not having trouble getting supplies.
