A group of scientists have been studying the effects connecting fragmented habitats in South Carolina. When there are landscape corridors species diversity thrives. It is interesting to read what they did and the conclusions they came to.

When you think of it, it seems obvious. When species can pass from one area to another through habitat links they can benefit the areas and they can benefit themselves. Part of the reason that we have lost biodiversity is the loss of habitat. Little islands of ecosystems thrive less well than island chains of ecosystems. So, if we want to protect biodiversity we have to look after ecosystems and we have to connect them. That means we need to see ecosystems as a whole and not individual pieces.
This study will prove very useful in showing how important landscape corridors are. Now we just have to start doing it.
