Every year Purina honours animal heroes. This year four dogs and a cat were honoured.

Sadly some of the heroes did not make it, but their names will be remembered. I think it is so good that animal heroes are recognized for their bravery.

I am familiar with the North Saskatchewan River and it is cold and fast. Rocky is a very brave dog. Dogs do not normally swim in that river.
What inspiring stories of bravery. Rocky is a tough dog indeed to swim after those girls in the Saskatchewan river in the depth of winter.

I am sad and sorry about the police dog who was fatally wounded in the line of duty.

I heard, the other day (somewhere....?) about a dog who had been trained to dial 911 in case of emergencies. And when his caretaker collapsed, the emergency services got a call from a dog! Fortunately they took it seriously, and came to the rescue. (I have NO idea how they managed to train him to do that!!)
It is sad that not all the animals could be there. but I am glad they were honoured anyways.
I have heard of dogs calling 911. The service dogs are trained to recognize an emergency and to get help. The phones are special(in most cases) and easy for a dog to dial.

I have heard of other cases. The 911 operators are trained to respond to a dogs bark and send help.
