Augie, the Golden Retriever has just celebrated her twentieth birthday. This makes her officially the oldest Golden retriever.
For an old girl she is still in pretty good shape.

When Augie's family adopted her at 14 years old I am sure they never thought she would still be with them 6 years later.
She looks like an old dog, but she also looks charming. I wish her more good time with her loving family.
I like this quote from the article:
"We care for them as long as we have them," Jennifer said, "and love them forever."
That is a beautiful quote.  It takes special people to adopt an older dog like that. I am glad that they have been able to have Augie for many years.

I didn't know that any dogs lived to twenty years old.
It is extremely rare. Goldies aren't noted for their longevity, although they are adorable.

For longevity, there is a list of breeds here:

I am quite surprized to see which dogs live the longest. I knew that some of the bigger dogs have shorter lives. I didn't expect chihuahuas, Yorkies and Pomeranians to live so long. The little dogs do better. I wonder if it is breed differences or do people give them better care. The little dogs are kept inside and treated well. They often get groomed regularly.  Larger dogs are seen as stronger and perhaps don't get  the care they need. No one chains a toy poodle outside, but a bigger dog might be chained outside in all weather.  I wonder if anyone has looked at longevity and the way people treat their dogs.

It seems most dogs don't live to be 20.
