The Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind was declared a non essential service when the pandemic lockdown occurred. That meant they still had all their dogs to look after, but they couldn`t pair them up with people needing dogs. Even now, with things opening up, it still isn`t business as usual. They are only allowed to work with one person at a time. Usually they can process 8 people and pair them with dogs. This means longer waits for the blind to get dogs and it means dogs are waiting longer to be paired with a person. It has also effected their fundraising. This is a very difficult time for everyone.

This is one facility that trains service dogs. I am sure if we do a search we will find that there are many other service dog training centers that are being effected.
It would be so frustrating to be ready for a dog and to know that a dog was ready for you, but because of the pandemic there will be delays.
We are still a long way from things being back to normal, even the new normal, whatever that will be.
I hope non of these training centers ends up closing because of this. Every one of them is needed.
