Kaavan the elephant has lived at the Marghazar zoo in Islamabad for more than 35 years. He lost his mate in 2012 and he has been alone in a small enclosure ever since. People have been lobbying on his behalf since 2016. Four Paws has been invited to transfer Kaavan and the other animals from the zoo to appropriate locations.

Previous attempts to move animals resulted in tragedy.

Definitely closing this zoo was the right thing to do. It is just sad that animals have died when they were supposed to be going to better lives.
Now that Four Paws is handling things the animals have a future. All the the remaining animals deserve a better life, but none more than Kaavan who has lived in desperate loneliness all these years. I hope soon to be posting pictures of Kaavan in his new life.
