There is an amazing woman in Sudbury Ontario who raises monarch butterflies. She has planted the milkweed for the monarchs to lay eggs on. When she finds tiny caterpillars she brings them in and feeds and protects them until the become butterflies.  It is an act of dedication. There is a lot of work involved in keeping the caterpillars fed. In the end she gets to see the butterflies emerge and watch them fly away.

So far all I have done is plant the milkweed. I am still looking for the caterpillars. I have seen an empty chrysalis case.  Clearly I need to look more closely.
The monarchs and all our pollinators need all the help they can get. Having someone like Marie helping them is important. I hope there are many more like her out there helping. All our efforts together will hopefully be enough to keep our butterflies alive.
