This is an amazing idea. They are using the store show rooms to present pictures of adoptable dogs.

It seems that the idea is spreading. Who knows, maybe dogs around the world can find homes through this.
This is a great idea!

I think opening peoples' thoughts to adopting from shelters is always constructive, because, as it said in the article, that may dissuade people from (unknowingly or otherwise) supporting puppy mills.

Good for you Ikea!

P.S.
I always thought your flat-pack furniture was designed to make us all go crazy trying to assemble it.....you are now forgiven! LOL
I once worked with someone to assemble a roll top desk. At 2am we realized that we had installed a major piece upside down. Smiley5

If we had one of those nice rescue dogs it would have made us feel better about things even thought we had to take a big part of the desk apart and put it back right.
Maybe that is why they are doing it. Dogs help reduce the stress of putting their furniture together.

It is a great plan and I hope many dogs find homes because of it.

Hahaha!Smiley4

I bought some Ikea bedroom chests of drawers. Small ones, three of them. I started to put them together one night in January 2011 when Misty was with me. She thought the whole thing was highly irregular at ten at night.....and not to be encouraged.... She sighed and looked sad as I muttered away to us both, at the same time trying to make sense of the instructions, while drenched in sweat and knee-deep in an assortment of screwdrivers.
"How do I do this Misty??" I asked her.
"Swedish just isn't my thing." She replied, sighed again and went to sleep. I was left alone with the problem.
Misty was very wise about the furniture project. One should never undertake assembling Ikea furniture late at night. We all do it though, with the expected results. Undecided
Even if you follow the instructions perfectly, things never go well the first time. There is always some part that we misplace, place upside down or get the left and the right mixed up. Huh

On the up side, if you ever actually get the furniture put together, it works really well and lasts forever. All my furniture is "flat pack" and I am still happy with it. A wise dog to encourage me would have made the experience more fun. Smiley4
The dog cut-outs allow people to see a dog with their furniture and actually picture having a dog in their home. Sometimes we need to see something before we act on it.
