Major Biden is a rescue dog and he will be the first rescue dog to live at the White House. To celebrate this fact,  the Delaware Humane  Association is hosting a zoom Indoguration party in honor of Major. The event is also a fundraiser to help the shelter.
This is a big day for rescue dogs. Major, a lowly rescue dog will become an official White House pet.

Not bad for a rescue dog! It also sends a strong message about adopting  pets. If an adopted dog is good enough for a president it is good enough for the rest of us.
I view that as an excellent sign for the new Presidency!

He likes dogs and dogs like him. That tells you a lot about the man. He is willing to have an ordinary rescue dog as a pet. That tells us even more.
This will be an unofficial year of the rescue dog. Many people will think about adoption who never considered it before. I can't wait to see pictures of
Major in the White House. I am sure the shelter he came from never dreamed anything like this would happen to him.
Indeed. Wonderful news! I am actually hopeful for the USA, for the first time in many years. I am also hopeful that all species of animals (including humans) will benefit from a more ecologically aware government in the USA. It always made me suspicious of Trump that he had no WH domestic animals, breaking a very long-standing tradition in the USA. There is an interesting article about WH pets here (and why Trump doesn't have one):

But now....Harris will be the first female vice-president. Major will be the first rescue dog in the WH. Things are looking up, at last!

However, I should also remind folks that France has had a resident rescue dog in the presidential home for several years already. Here he is helping Macron greet a visiting head of state, back in pre-Covid days:

Yes, your president has a beautiful rescue dog.  He seems to be a real asset to the president's work.

Why doesn't Trump have a dog?
To have a dog or any other pet you have to love something other than yourself.
You will notice I didn't even say more than yourself. There is no way he could love something more than himself. He can't even just love something.

A dog in the Whitehouse is a sign of better more compassionate, eco-aware times.
Having a woman as VP will provide a balance that has never been there before.
Once they get through this current disaster at the Capital building, they can settle down and sort out real problems.
On a more light-hearted note about dogs in presidential homes, here is one incident where Nemo was overcome by excitement at all the visitors coming and going (Labradors are very friendly and greet everyone) and there was an "accident". All the ministers attending the meeting found it amusing! It's a sign of real love that Mr. le President actually defended Nemo, saying that he had never done that before. Macron understood that a rescue dog needs time, especially in unusual situations. Nemo is allowed to go wherever he wants in the Elysée Palace.

I will let you into a small French secret: Nemo is alleged to have received more presents from the public than Mr. le President himself! Members and guests, please use Google Translate if the French in the following article is too much for you. It is well worth reading:

https://www.programme-tv.net/news/societ...e-cadeaux/

That is one of many reasons why I am proud to be a recent French citizen:

79 That is just too funny. The all laughed at Nemo's little accident as soon as they noticed.
They must all have pets because no one seemed surprised or bothered. They all saw the humor of it.

My French did very well this time, but I didn't know the word pheasant in French.
I can see why people send Nemo gifts. He is such a loveable dog.  It does say a lot about France that your President has a dog and that dog is very much a part of his life and work.
Gandhi was right that how we treat animals says much about ourselves.
I am not surprised by the bad behavior of  a man who does not have pets. He does not treat animals well and he does not treat people well.

Congratulations on becoming a French Citizen.
You have to love and respect a country that has a dog living in its palace who greets official visitors and gets more gifts than your president.
Here is a really good article about Major and his adoptive family. He is a beautiful dog and he is going to look good in the White House.

Major is no Nemo, but he is going to be very popular with everyone. It will make the president seem more human to see him out walking with his dogs.
I think having animals in your life makes you more approachable and more in touch with the realities of just living.
Interesting article. So just as we learned what POTUS means, we now have to learn a new abbreviation: FIDO (First Dog)! Major will be a welcome addition to the WH and I am sure that he will support Biden emotionally with all the "putting right" he has to do.

When you have a big job like president Biden has, having a dog or two around is a big help.

The term POTUS has a history and other similar words.

Some people can't resist creating words from initials.  I am not sure it is a good idea. Sometimes the results are funny sounding.
I wouldn't like someone calling me FLOTUS.
