Full Version: Controversial Norwegian whale study

Norway has decided to study the effects of noise on Minke Whales.  They propose to do this by herding the whales and trapping them. Then they will test their reactions to various noise levels.
This proposal has drawn a lot of criticism. There is already plenty of literature about the effects of noise on whales.
We already know our noise bothers them. The research needs to be done on the noise sources and how to make them quieter.

The first thing that comes to my mind is whaling. Norway is still involved in whaling.
So is this study just an excuse to kill more whales. It certainly is not being done for the good of the whales.

I would be concerned that they are testing noises to find ways of controlling the whales better. I doubt they will be releasing the test whales afterwards.
Whatever they are doing, it is not being done to benefit the whales. We have been unable to stop them from whaling so I doubt we can stop them from doing this. Angry
