BC is having a deadly heat wave. One town broke all records when the temperature hit 49C. This is tough for humans. For animals it can be fatal.
In particular the Herons are having a rough time. The chicks are so hot they are leaving the nests before they can fly. One bird walked into a clothing store to take advantage of the air-conditioning. Some birds have died of the heat. Fortunately people in the area are putting out water and food and trying to help.

I am glad people are trying to help. Extreme heat spells are very hard on wildlife. The way we have changed the land leaves little natural shelter for animals.
Our dry bare grass lawns are not helpful. Native vegetation would be of more benefit. Since heat spells are an emergency for wildlife the least we can do is provide water. Long term we need to work on climate change and rewilding more of the planet.
