The Okanagan Raptor Center has been called out to numerous heat emergencies. Raptor chicks are hanging over the edge of the nest panting. They are  suffering  from dehydration, starvation and heat exhaustion. The center took in 40 raptors in 48 hours.  Sadly many were already dead when they got to them.
Osprey, Eagles and Hawks are struggling to survive. It is not just the heat. The heat causes the fish to swim deeper in the lake, too deep for the birds to catch them.
The Raptor Center was running out of fish, but they got a donation of a 1,000 pounds of fish.

This is a yet another sad consequence of climate change. The heat has been deadly for humans and animals. There have also been fires to contend with.
When the heat breaks and the area  returns to normal temperatures, I wonder how many animals will have perished. Certainly the raptor population will have been hard hit. It is just fortunate that there is an Okanagan Raptor Center to save some of the birds.
