On July 6, a day of extreme heat, 3 turtles were abandoned in the Toronto Zoo parking lot. They were in a plastic bin with a little water and little shelter from the heat.  They were not even left by the gate where they would be seen. It is just chance that a film crew working in the area noticed them. They were rescued in time. If it had been much longer, they would have been dead. They are being cared for at the zoo for now, but they are going to be transferred to Little Res Q,
a rescue that specializes in reptiles, especially red eared sliders.
This is not the first time animals have been abandoned at the zoo. The zoo cares for them until they can be placed somewhere suitable.

This is unbelievable. There are pet rescues that would have taken the turtles. Certainly leaving them out in the heat was cruel and dangerous.
The zoo is also not easy to get to. There are much easier alternatives. If they took the trouble to drive to the zoo, why wouldn't they drop the bin off by the entrance where it would be noticed.
There is never a good reason to abandon an animal. There are always alternatives. Why abandon they in a way that was certain to get them killed. They would have died from heat stress in a hot bin. Even an animal abandoner could do better than that. Angry
