Smiley6 A shopper in a grocery store was saddened to see four small octopuses on sale at a reduced price. They were reduced to  0.36  pounds, for quick sale, before being thrown out. The little octopuses died just to become a 36 cent meal or worse, food waste.
The shopper posted a picture and got a surprisingly strong reaction from people.  They were angry that octopuses, amazing creatures that they are, could end up like this.
The Conservative Animal Welfare Association is working to get Octopuses and other cephalopods recognized as sentient.
If they can do this the animals will come under the Animal Sentience Bill. This would offer them protection.

From the response to the picture it seems that people's sympathies lie with the octopuses. People are ready to accept them as sentient.
People are ready to accept a lot of animals as sentient.

If this passes and if animals like octopuses are included, a lot of things will be recognized as animal cruelty.
This could be the start of some serious changes in the well being of animals in our care and jurisdiction.
Let us hope this bill passes.
