Donkey's are an overlooked equine. This forum didn't list donkeys in the section that cover horses. My mistake.
The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada has worked since the 80s to provide a place of refuge for donkeys in need. Many are damaged by over work.
People think donkeys are stronger than the larger horses, but it isn't true. The sanctuary has expanded and can house 100 donkeys at a time, with others in foster homes. At the sanctuary a donkey can live out its days in peaceful surroundings enjoying a well deserved rest.
The sanctuary also works to educate people about donkeys. They are open to agricultural students and to the general public so people can learn about these gentle misunderstood creatures.

This sounds like a wonderful place. I would love to see 100 donkeys enjoying their lives and living in peace. Whenever we see donkeys in pictures they are sad little creatures that are being abused. Maybe we can teach people that donkeys can be so much more and deserve so much more.
