An Ottawa woman was at the skating rink with her children when a person walking a dog said there was a baby porcupine in the snow. It is February in Canada, so she knew it  wouldn't be a baby porcupine. It was a dwarf Pygmy hedgehog. They are normally native to Africa. They are also popular pets. This one was clearly a pet. Why it was out in the snow is a mystery. No one has ever claimed her. She is very friendly and the woman who found her, adopted her.

I am glad the story had a happy ending. If the hedgehog had not been found so quickly it would no have survived. They cannot cope with the cold of a Canadian winter. I can't see how a hedgehog would escape. They are just a small animal and they sleep all day. I think someone must have released it. That was cruel because it was almost certain the hedgehog would die from the cold. It was just luck the right person found her.
