Fishers in central and north eastern BC are considered to be endangered. A biologist has designed a nest box for them to help them survive and raise their kits safely. The Fisher den boxes are hung up in trees and so far 50 boxes have been placed. They were studied from 2013 to 2019 and at least 12 females have been returning yearly to raise their kits.
Fishers are in trouble because of clear cutting. They cannot survive in a clear cut area.
Since Fishers control the rodent population. so they actually benefit the forest and protect the trees rodent damage. Leaving enough forest for the Fishers would be of benefit to the companies that are logging in the area.

Once again we see a need for predators to keep keep an ecosystem balanced. Without Fishers, the rodent and rabbit population would run wild and damage young trees. The whole ecosystem benefits when things are kept in balance. If providing nest boxes helps then the project has been a success.
