A number of Green Sea Turtles have been found near the Japanese Island of Kumejima. They have wounds on their necks and some were barely breathing.
It is unclear what happened to the turtles after they were found and it is unclear how they were injured. The wounds do appear to be caused by a blade.
It is possible the turtle injuries are linked to conflict with the local fishing community. Investigations continue

Green Sea Turtles, like all other sea turtles, are endangered. Losing a number of turtles like this could impact the whole species.
I hope they determine what happened and make sure that it never happens again. More does need to be done to protect sea turtles.
