Beavers were once more abundant. People hunted them for their fur in the past. Now many consider them to be pests. They are not really looking at what beavers do for the environment.  Their dams hold back water and reduce the effects of drought. They also reduce the effects of wildfires. The green vegetation around beaver ponds is less likely to burn. Our dams have the opposite effect. They damage the environment.
This article has some good videos and pictures that show just how much good beavers do.

Beavers seem to know how big to build their dams. They don't try and regulate a whole river for miles. They just regulate the area where they live.
They keep their dams in good repair. They use ecofriendly building materials. Everything about the way they regulate water flow is balanced and appropriate for the area.  The solution to climate change is not any one thing. There is no quick fix. Encouraging and accommodating beavers would be one step in the right direction.
