A woman who is blind and uses a guide dog, flew from Minneapolis to Toronto. Even though her dog was not specifically registered with the airline, they let her fly.
When it came time to return to Minneapolis, they refused to let her fly because the dog was not registered with the airline. She was not told she had to register the dog. She couldn't let them put the dog in the baggage area. She is totally dependent on the dog. She ended up taking a bus to the border, a taxi across the border and a different airline to fly her to Minneapolis. It was very expensive and very stressful.

This is not the first time Air Canada has failed a disabled passenger and they are not the only airline to refuse a service dog.
It seems that every week we are hearing stories of people being turned away because of their service animal. All the work that was done to gain rights for service dogs now seems to be failing. The disabled person involved is not being treated with respect either. The companies can apologize afterwards, but that does not make up for the stress and humiliation that the person and their dog have suffered. We are going to have to start fighting for rights again.
